Affordable Homeownership Network
Our approach for increasing affordable homeownership
We prepare people for homeownership by supporting the expansion of housing counseling and financial capability services to potential homebuyers.
We support partners to develop and disseminate homebuyer education for manufactured housing in rural communities. This includes providing technical assistance to adapt and scale their programs and housing models. We are also working with local housing authorities to implement rent reporting programs, as well as helping lending partners design a matched savings account program to support first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance.
We seek to preserve and increase the current affordable housing stock and lower the cost of entry to homeownership.
Prosperity Now promotes legislation and polices to increase access to affordable housing, such as the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s Duty to Serve plans and the Fair Housing Act of 1968. We continue to support manufactured housing—the most underutilized form of unsubsidized affordable housing available—at the federal and local government levels. To further advance manufactured housing as powerful wealth-building strategy, the national I’M HOME (Innovation in Manufactured Homes) Network helps put more people in manufactured homes. Join the I’M HOME Network to learn more about manufactured housing and how we are increasing the supply of affordable homes.
We are committed to keeping people in their homes by reducing the risks associated with homeownership.
Prosperity Now works with Community Development Financial Institutions, state housing finance agencies, and other providers to determine best practices for high-touch (requiring human interaction) servicing and in-testing, implementing and incentivizing variations of mortgage reserve accounts. We are also responding to the challenge of displacement from closed manufactured housing parks by working with the I’m HOME Network to conduct research and develop a model for advocates to reduce the threat of displacement.

The Network shares the latest information you need to know, connects practitioners across the country and provides timely tools and resources to improve programs and policies for homeownership that benefit low-income households.
