  • Without access to structured savings plans, households of color are particularly affected by liquid asset poverty- 57% of households of color are liquid asset poor compared to 32% of white families.
  • The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), one of the federal government’s most successful and powerful anti-poverty programs, helps keep about 5.8 million people out of poverty. Refunds received at tax time can make up as much as 30 percent of a low-income family’s annual income.
  • Automatic enrollment in retirement programs can increase participation rates from 40 percent to over 90 percent.
