SAN DIEGO, CA — Prosperity Now today announced that California Business and Consumer Services Agency Secretary Rohit Chopra, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, and actress, writer, and producer Julissa Calderón will join the 2026 San Diego Regional Summit on Wednesday, August 12 at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego.
The daylong Summit will bring together practitioners, policymakers, financial institutions, philanthropy, nonprofit leaders, and community organizations to examine how housing, consumer protection, and financial stability connect in people’s lives. Sessions will focus on housing access and attainable homeownership, community ownership, entrepreneurship, children’s savings, consumer financial protection, and scam prevention.
The program will draw on Chopra’s leadership in consumer protection and financial services, Gloria’s perspective on San Diego’s housing and economic priorities, and Calderón’s work as a storyteller who connects real experiences with broader public conversations.
Other featured speakers include Marisa Calderon, President and CEO of Prosperity Now; Sonja Diaz, Founder of Unseen; Noerena Limón, CEO of Casita Coalition; Dave Uejio, Chief Operating Officer of Prosperity Now and former Acting Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and former Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency; and Chrissi Johnson, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of Prosperity Now.
The Summit will close with “The Missing Rung: Scaling Community Ownership Without Waiting for Congress,” featuring Uejio; Aaron Martinez, Chief Operating Officer of Urban Land Conservancy; and Frank Wells, President and Chief Impact Officer of Bright Community Trust. The conversation will examine community ownership models already being put into practice, the barriers that keep them from reaching more people and the roles that public, private and community partners can play in helping them grow.
Attendees will also participate in breakout sessions led by experts from Ventures, Oakland Promise, United Way of San Diego, United Way California Capital Region, Early Wealth Partnership, ScholarShare Investment Board, UCLA CalKIDS Institute, New Growth Innovation Network, and the Center for Global Sustainability.
"People experience housing, financial services, and economic opportunity as connected parts of their lives," said Marisa Calderon, President and CEO of Prosperity Now. "This Summit brings together the people who shape policy, finance housing, protect consumers, and deliver programs in communities. The goal is to leave with stronger connections, clearer priorities, and ideas that can be put to work."
